We went to an Open House at one of the car dealerships in town this evening. A good friend of ours is a manager there and they serve food, have all kinds of "scrumptious treats" (as Silas put it), and even rent bounce houses. I was out with the kids earlier in the day and when we drove by, the bounce houses were already set up. The three older ones absolutely freaked out with excitement when I told them we were going later.
It was bedtime when we got home so Blaise missed the birthday festivities. Which was ok because he didn't have a gift to "share" this year. I decided to do the gifts because we have been talking about ways to be kind but also because our older kids have been so funny, asking Shane if he wants all kinds of things they want for his birthday! Daddy, don't you want an Angry Birds Star Wars game/Legos/baby doll/Planes figure/random Cars toy for your birthday? has been common in our house lately.
I told Shane tonight, I just want to bottle up these ages and keep all the memories somewhere I can access them anytime I want. There are just a million cute and funny things to remember.
Anyhow, all that to say, happy birthday, Shane. We all absolutely adore you. I was just thinking the other day how you really are kind to our children. You are gentle and patient. You show interest in what they love and you take time to listen to them. I would not want to walk this road without you. And I hope you get to play with some of those gifts too!

Brittany, the children's faces are just BEAMING in this photo - I can feel their excitement! Thanks for sharing! I'm sure the dealership open house was a blast.
Keep writing the memories, you'll be so glad to have them.
Hugs from Tennessee!
