I would say that our family doesn't yet have a lot of yearly traditions. I think they are developing year by year as we decide what is meaningful to us and what works with our family. But Halloween has kind of turned in to a kind of a tradition with some friends here. We do dinner together then take the kids trick-or-treating. It's a whirlwind of a time but so fun to have something the kids remember and look forward to each year.
This is an aside, but Silas had his fall program at school on Halloween. They asked the kids to dress silly. So Silas wore his shirt backwards, one sock and two different shoes (including one Angry Birds piggy slipper) to school that day...
Here he is waving when the program was over. That's his teacher in the pink striped tights. We love her!
We came home from the program, had lunch and rest times then everyone got dressed up for the evening festivities. Lieren asked to be Snow White this year. We have no idea how she even knows who Snow White is. The boys really wanted her to be Princess Leia but she declined. I don't think the Princess Leia costume was girly enough ;)
She adores the red shoes...
Sim was Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi, depending on his mood...
Always a lightsaber duel close at hand...
Our awesome Darth Vader...
And Yoda. Go ahead and judge about the paci. I'm picking my battles.
We then drove over to our friend's, the Friend's house for dinner. The kids were so excited it was hard for them to focus on eating...
Then off they ran...
And we all tried to keep up...
It turned cold right as we went out and began drizzling not long afterward. So we split up, the dads took the big kids and we moms took the little ones. They went a much longer route through the neighborhood and we did a shorter one. We stayed mainly dry and they got drenched. But everyone ended up with more candy than we'll ever eat so they were happy.
